Roberto Luongo makes a return to the NHL All-Star game for the 2nd consecutive year with the Florida Panthers.

Less than two years later Luongo will play in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Sunday with teammates Aaron Ekblad and Jaromir Jagr. His coach, Gerard Gallant, will be behind the bench of the Atlantic Division team, a reward for the Panthers entering the break in first place.

There was no intention on Luongo's part to go to Florida and wind down his career. The intent was to win.

"It's nice to be at the place I envisioned we would be," Luongo said Friday at All-Star Weekend media day. "There's still a lot of work left to be done, that goes without saying, and we're not satisfied with anything that we've done so far because really we haven't really done anything. But the growth of our team has been great over the last year-and-a-half and it's just exciting to think about the future and realizing we have a chance to do something special over the next few years."

Luongo makes his fourth career NHL All-Star appearance (2004, 2007 & 2009). Luongo was named a starter in the 2008 All-Star game, but did not play in the contest. The Montreal, Quebec, native owns a 16-7-7 record with Florida this season and ranks tied for sixth in save percentage (.926) and ranks ninth in GAA (2.23). On Dec. 16, against the Washington Capitals, Luongo set a NHL record by making 15 saves in Florida’s record breaking 20-round shootout. With a win against the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 8, Luongo tied G Dominik Hasek for 11th all-time in career wins by a goaltender (389).

Luongo played in the 2007 and 2009 NHL All-Star Games while representing Vancouver. In 2007, he stopped all 12 shots faced to win the goaltending event of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Prior to that, Luongo participated in the 2004 NHL All-Star Game while representing Florida, winning the goaltending event of the NHL All-Star Skills Competition by stopping 11 of 12 shots faced.

West Kelowna Warriors, RBC Cup champions.

Matthew Greenfield turned aside 48 shots and Jonathan Desbiens scored the game winner with a separated shoulder suffered in Saturday's semi-final, in a 4-0 win, Sunday over the host Lloydminster Bobcats.

About 2,000 fans, including several Warriors supporters, saw Desbiens open the scoring when he banged home Brett Mennear's rebound 5:21 into the opening period.

Greenfield took over from there, making several key saves, especially during the decisive opening period.

"That's pretty special," said Greenfield of the shutout.

"I wasn't even thinking shutout. I was thinking, just give my team a chance and they were unbelievable in front of me."

Greenfield, acquired just before Christmas, said it wasn't any one guy. He said everybody contributed as one point or another during the season.

Sunday's RBC Cup championship is the first in the 10 year history of the franchise in West Kelowna. It's also the first time a team outside the top 20 has made it to an RBC Cup final, let alone win it."
